Economy matters. Creativity matters most. (PART THREE)

Economy matters. Creativity matters most. Even the grandfathers of prosperity, Napoleon Hill and Wallace D. Wattles, will tell you this.

Economy matters. Creativity matters most.

Economy matters. Creativity matters most.

In his prosperity classic, Think and Grow Rich, Napoleon Hill talks about the importance of organized capital in the world. Capitalism is necessary for the good of all. But he also warns against what he calls “the six ghosts of fear,” and he lists the “Fear of Poverty” in first place. I believe many of today’s corporate and government leaders suffer from this fear. And they are giving capitalism a bad name through their fear-based actions.

In his prosperity classic, The Science of Getting Rich, Wallace D. Wattles lays out the only true formula for obtaining lasting wealth. He agrees that economy matters. But creativity matters most.

Words of Caution from Napoleon Hill

The fear of poverty is, without doubt, the most destructive of the six basic fears. It has been placed at the head of the list because it is the most difficult to master. Considerable courage is required to state the truth about the origin of this fear, and still greater courage to accept the truth after it has been stated. The fear of poverty grew out of the human tendency to prey upon others economically. Nearly all animals lower than humans are motivated by instinct, but as their capacity to “think” is limited, they prey upon one another physically. Humans, with their superior sense of intuition, with the capacity to think and to reason, do not eat other humans bodily; they get more satisfaction out of “eating” them financially.

Think Trudeau/SNC Lavalin and our current banking system here…

The age in which we live seems to be consumed by money-madness. People are considered less than the dust of the earth unless they can display a fat bank account; but if they have money—never mind how acquiredthey are too often idolized and treated as being above the law. They rule in politics, dominate in business and the whole world about them bows in respect when they pass by.

Nothing brings so much suffering and humility as poverty! Only those who have experienced poverty understand the full meaning of this. It is no wonder that we fear poverty. Through a long line of inherited experiences we have learned, for sure, that some people cannot be trusted where matters of money and earthly possessions are concerned. This is a rather stinging indictment, the worst part of it being that it is true.

Words of Wisdom from Wallace D. Wattles

There is a thinking stuff from which all things are made, and which, in its original state, permeates, penetrates, and fills the interspaces of the universe.

A thought in this substance produces the thing that is imaged by the thought.

Man can form things in his thought, and by impressing his thought upon formless substance can cause the thing he thinks about to be created.

In order to do this, man must pass from the competitive to the creative mind; otherwise he cannot be in harmony with the Formless Intelligence, which is always creative and never competitive in spirit.

Man may come into full harmony with the Formless Substance by entertaining a lively and sincere gratitude for the blessings it bestows upon him. Gratitude unifies the mind of man with the intelligence of Substance, so that man’s thoughts are received by the Formless. Man can remain upon the creative plane only by uniting himself with the Formless Intelligence through a deep and continuous feeling of gratitude.

Man must form a clear and definite mental image of the things he wishes to have, to do, or to become; and he must hold this mental image in his thoughts, while being deeply grateful to the Supreme that all his desires are granted to him. The man who wishes to get rich must spend his leisure hours in contemplating his Vision, and in earnest thanks-giving that the reality is being given to him. Too much stress cannot be laid on the importance of frequent contemplation of the mental image, coupled with unwavering faith and devout gratitude. This is the process by which the impression is given to the Formless, and the creative forces set in motion.

The creative energy works through the established channels of natural growth, and of the industrial and social order. All that is included in his mental image will surely be brought to the man who follows the instructions given above, and whose faith does not waver. What he wants will come to him through the ways of established trade and commerce.

In order to receive his own when it shall come to him, man must be active; and this activity can only consist in more than filling his present place. He must keep in mind the Purpose to get rich through the realization of his mental image. And he must do, every day, all that can be done that day, taking care to do each act in a successful manner. He must give to every man a use value in excess of the cash value he receives, so that each transaction makes for more life; and he must so hold the Advancing Thought that the impression of increase will be communicated to all with whom he comes into contact.

Economy matters. Creativity matters most.

To obtain riches in the only true (and lasting) way that harmonizes with nature, one must obtain his or her riches creatively. If only our current political leaders and bankers understood this natural law, we would all be thriving.

Canada’s economy practically grinds to a halt — and nobody saw it coming

Economy matters. Above all else, Donald Trump? (PART TWO)

My biggest concern with Jason Kenney winning Alberta’s election was that we would end up with another Donald Trump type. I found that prospect quite frightening, actually.

Economy matters. Above all else, Donald Trump?

Economy matters. Above all else, Donald Trump?

Since Kenney’s unsurprising landslide victory, I continue watching him closely. He’s no Donald Trump. In fact, he’s an articulate, bilingual career politician from Ottawa who is well-connected both provincially and federally. I still have my concerns: coverage of him in Maclean’s Magazine seems to mirror the NDP’s smear campaigns, and his United Conservative Party is already dogged by various RCMP investigations. But at least he’s no Donald Trump in other important ways. Life’s little blessings.

What advice would you give to your daughter?

I’m always perplexed whenever I hear Donald Trump supporters talk about how he’s been “good for the economy” like nothing else matters. This man surrounds himself with liars and convicted criminals, and he is unarguably a chronic liar himself. He’s been caught on tape admitting to—bragging about—how he has sexually harassed and groped women in the past. And after he and his family brushed this off as “locker room talk,” like it was no big deal, he was elected as President of the United States of America. Huh?

What if your daughter came to you and said, “I’ve met a new guy, and I want your advice about him. He hangs out with criminals, lies to me constantly, and he caught me off guard by groping me the other day. But he makes a lot of money. Should I stay with him?”

Any half-assed decent parents, male or female, would tell their daughter, “Lose that guy fast! He’s no good for you. You deserve better.”

So, why on earth would these same people put a man like that into the most powerful office in the free world? By doing so, you’re sending a strong message to all your sons about what is acceptable treatment of women. And you’re telling all your daughters how they deserve to be treated by men. There is no sidestepping this fact, people. This is what you’re doing when you elect someone like Donald Trump into office.

Economy matters. Above all else, Donald Trump?

I’ve already discussed the economic repercussions that can result from a lack of corporate integrity in a past blog entry. How about The Long-Term Economic Cost of Violence Against Women? What about The Costs of White-Collar Crime to society as a whole? There are so many more articles I could add on related topics here. Google it for yourself.

Economy matters. Yes, it does. But when you put economy above all else, we all pay a much higher price in all areas of life than we actually gain from that one.

Economy matters. Above all else? (PART ONE)

Economy matters. It absolutely does. And you may recall that the whole reason our economy is in the state it’s in right now is because of the antics of the last set of Conservatives. Their questionable integrity got them booted out of office and forced an “Orange Crush” vote in protest. That’s proof right there that integrity matters as much as economy.

That’s how I replied to an email from a friend of mine who was disappointed by my recent post about the upcoming Alberta election. He told me to “read the policies and reflect just a little on what the NDP has done to this province.” His final message to me was, “Economy matters.” Then he disconnected from me on LinkedIn. I guess I only get to be his friend if I agree with him on everything.

Economy matters. Above all else?

Economy matters. Above all else?

A lack of integrity can crash the economy.

You don’t only need to read Alberta’s archives from 2015 to understand how a lack of integrity can detrimentally affect the economy. Read today’s news.

Just ask TD Bank about the effect this CBC news story about disgruntled employees had on their stock performance: TD Bank shares post worst day since 2009 after CBC story.

That story was followed by yet another one about thousands more disgruntled employees who replied in solidarity: ‘We are all doing it’: Employees at Canada’s 5 big banks speak out about pressure to dupe customers.

That story was followed by similar complaints from employees in the telecom industry: Former Bell and Rogers employees reveal sales secrets submitted to public inquiry.

And that story was followed by a public inquiry which reported this just last month: Telecom customers face ‘unacceptable’ harm from misleading sales tactics, CRTC says.

Too bad the banking inquiry wasn’t as accurate as the telecom inquiry was: The FCAC’s handling of its bank review is grounds for a public inquiry into the regulator and Canada’s financial services. “It’s proof that the Department of Finance is complicit with the FCAC and is deceiving the public,” SIPA president Stan Buell told Go Public.

Ask all these companies what stories like these can do to their share prices. It isn’t pretty. And it affects us all.

The opposite of integrity is dishonesty.

The opposite of integrity is dishonesty.

Economy matters. Above all else?

When those in leadership place economy ahead of integrity, that economy will only sustain itself for so long. Employees and the public will begin to see through the deception. They’ll start complaining. First in small numbers. Then those numbers will grow larger and larger until a domino effect takes place that not only slows current progress; it can cause a recession, even a complete market crash.

I’m going to a Jason Kenney rally in Calgary this week because I want to hear him speak. I’m still willing to listen to what he has to say. But his policies are not the only things I’m watching. I’m also watching his character—his level of integrity. I long for the Ralph Klein days again. I hope this is the guy. But we’ll see.

Honesty and Integrity Gift-Wrapped in an F-Bomb [Ralph Klein]

Honesty and integrity matters in business and in government. It’s not only about a strong economy, albeit that’s an important part of the equation. This is why I’m so torn about which way to go in the upcoming Alberta election. Is it one or the other? Can we actually have both?

Honesty and Integrity Matters [Alberta Election]

Honesty and Integrity Matters [Alberta Election]

I am a Conservative at heart. But I didn’t vote in our last provincial election in Alberta. I was so shocked by the antics of the previous few conservative leaders—Danielle Smith/Jim Prentice, Alison Redford, Ed Stelmach—that I couldn’t see myself supporting anything any of them stood for at that time. In not voting, I inadvertently supported the election of our current NDP Premier, Rachel Notley. Alberta hasn’t felt the same to me since then.

I think the Conservatives needed to be knocked off their throne for a little while, so they could tone down the arrogance that grew from their decades-long reign. I always assumed they would clean up their collective act and return to office in the next election. The longer the NDP has been in power, the more I’ve prayed Albertans will someday restore the “glory days” of the Ralph Klein era.

Honesty and Integrity Matters [Alberta Election]

But Jason Kenney has me concerned. There is a stifling smell of arrogance in the air again, and I don’t like what I’m reading in the newspapers about this man.

I’m not talking about all of the blatant NDP smear campaigns about Jason Kenney’s character here. Any time I see these types of campaigns, I see only fear in the eyes of the people running them. It makes me question their confidence more than the other guy’s character.

I am talking about articles like this one: Kenney, Callaway campaigns collaborated to attack Brian Jean during UCP leadership race, leaked documents show.

UCP executive Janice Harrington says campaign communication was ‘perfectly normal’ and ‘within the rules’ … Following Kenney’s landslide win, it was alleged Kenney’s campaign ran Callaway as a so-called “kamikaze” candidate to attack and undermine Jean, Kenney’s main political rival. Both Kenney and Callaway have denied collaborating in a kamikaze campaign. (CBC News, March 2019)

If this campaign tactic was above board, then why do Kenney and Callaway feel the need to deny it? Why not simply own up to it? If you have to lie about something like this, what else are you lying about? These are the types of character traits I look closely at in other people.

The opposite of integrity is dishonesty.

The opposite of integrity is dishonesty.

We Need More Leaders Like JWR

ln my opinion, our country was shown honesty and integrity through Jody Wilson-Raybould’s recent actions: JWR has evidence, Trudeau has crumbling stories. We were also shown true courage. I agree 100% with how JWR handled that situation after months of being pressured by Trudeau and his top staffers. She knew she had no other choice but to provide evidence of their ongoing pressure if/when she was ever questioned about it in the future. Because she knew who she was dealing with; she knew they would lie. Without a recording, it would be nothing more than a “he said, she said” scenario. With a recording, she was able to prove her honesty and their lies. She had no other choice in the matter.

All our parents taught us that honesty is the best policy. So, why is this concept so difficult for some people? Here’s another person we can all learn from in this regard: Jane Philpott.

“Without malice, sometimes errors take place, but you need to own up to the people who may have been harmed and you need to find out why it happened and make sure it never happens again.” (CBC News, March 2019)

You need to show integrity, Jason Kenney. If you want my vote, you need to own your words and actions rather than deny, deny like Trudeau. Look where that got him?

Honesty and Integrity Gift-Wrapped in an F-Bomb

Somebody once told me a story about Ralph Klein, and it made me smile. He was seated at a table in front of a roomful of angry constituents who were all yelling at him for one thing or another. He sat there listening to them and couldn’t get a word in edgewise.

Finally, in frustration, Ralph stood up and gave them all the finger—that caught their attention!—and yelled back at them, “I did was exactly what I said I was going to do, you idiots!” That’s honesty and integrity gift-wrapped in an F-bomb. I have a ton of respect for that man.

Confession: I’m Addicted to Dr. Pimple Popper Videos!

I haven’t been blogging much this month. Shame on me. When I try to come up with decent excuses “why” for next month’s blogging progress report, I cringe. The truth is, I’m addicted to Dr. Pimple Popper videos! There is something strangely satisying about watching Dr. Sandra Lee squeeze cysts and blackheads out of her patients’ bodies!

Dr. Pimple Popper

Dr. Pimple Popper

I don’t even know how this all started. Somehow, I did some type of search on YouTube that brought up a Dr. Sandra Lee (a.k.a. Dr. Pimple Popper) video in my search results. I clicked on that video and watched it. Now, I find myself using these videos to wind down after a long day’s work. I’ll watch several like a crazed addict before going to bed at night. How silly is that?

Dr. Pimple Popper Videos Appeal to Many People

But I’m not alone in my addiction, so I’ve learned. My understanding is that her whole YouTube channel started after she posted one video of her squeezing a cyst. The video went viral because many people were fascinated with it. Now, she’s posted dozens more videos. And I can’t seem to get enough of these things.

So, I blame Dr. Pimple Popper for my lack of blogging this past month. But I also blame me, obviously. If I want to continue growing my blog subscribers, I’m going to have to limit myself to only one or two of these videos per night. Not 12!

Feeling Nostalgic for Asia in 2016

I can’t believe it’s already been almost a year since I embarked on my “Eat, Pray, Love” working holiday in Asia. What an amazing year it was! Here is a video I created, ahead of time, to help me obtain a teaching job once I got to Thailand…

And here is a page where I wrote about my experience: click here for more details regarding my inspiration for this trip. There are a couple of pictures contained on that page specific to my time in Thailand, but I thought I’d also share a few more with you today. It was an amazing year for me. So glad I did it!

So, what inspired this blog post today? I received an email from my old school in Bangkok, Interkids Bilingual School IBS, that tugged on my heartstrings and made me nostalgic for the whole experience again. Click here to read it.  It makes me smile. I love these people, and I miss them very much. Thank you for giving me such a beautiful experience in your country.

How The Secret Changed My Life … New Book Due Out October 4, 2016

Kim Staflund: founder and publisher at Polished Publishing Group (PPG) and author of the PPG Publisher’s Blog

Kim Staflund: founder and publisher at Polished Publishing Group (PPG) and author of the PPG Publisher’s Blog

A little under a year ago, I wrote a blog entry titled How Gratitude and Visualization Can Help Authors Sell More Books and announced that my personal story was being featured as the “Story of the Week” on TheSecret.tv website. Earlier this month, I was informed that this same story will also appear in Rhonda Byrne’s upcoming book titled How The Secret Changed My Life: Real People. Real Stories. (hardcover version) which is due out on October 4, 2016. (I’ve since learned my story was one of 73 stories chosen out of over 30,000 that were submitted to TheSecret.tv website. That makes me smile. What an honour.)

I’ve been aware, for a while now, that my story may appear in this new book because I gave permission to The Secret team to publish it when we spoke about it last year. I was also aware that it would undergo some light editing (as it should!) if they decided to include it in their book. Since the lightly edited version is slightly different from the original version I sent them, I’ve decided to share the original with you here. Enjoy!

My Three Greatest Dreams Came True … Plus A Few More!

I was a single parent for over 20 years. As a single parent, finances were always a stressful area of my life. I rarely traveled anywhere, nor was I a home-owner. I rented for a long time. One of my greatest desires and promises to myself was that one day I would travel to the UK. I’d never left North America before. I wanted my first trip abroad to be to London, UK. I also wanted to be a home-owner, and I wanted to feel a sense of financial comfort and ease in my life. But, for many years, I saw no way this could ever happen for me.

In addition to these common desires that many people share, it was also always my dream to become a bestselling author. I had self-published three books by the time my son finished grade twelve; but they weren’t selling as well as I had hoped they would.

I first came across The Secret in early 2007. I loved it because it inspired me and gave me hope that I could improve my situation once and for all. (It is also what inspired me to write my second book.) Following that, I bought The Power and then The Magic, and I began focusing on what I love and on practicing gratitude every single day. I started watching subliminal videos and listening to subliminal tapes to help me reach my very core, so that I could really infuse my subconscious thoughts and beliefs with these new messages of love and gratitude and personal empowerment. Another thing I did was watch Rhonda’s videos The Secret to Riches, The Secret to You, and Planet Earth Forever at least once daily for several weeks straight. I really wanted to saturate my body, mind, and spirit with love, gratitude, and the belief that I could improve my life. Something in me knew repetition was the key … just keep reading these books, keep practicing gratitude, keep watching these videos, keep strengthening my belief.

How The Secret Changed My Life: Real People. Real Stories. (ebook version)

Long story short, it worked. It still brings me to tears, sometimes, when I think about just how well it worked for me.

I really increased the intensity of my gratitude and visualization exercises in September 2013, around the time I published my fourth book. I began doing my exercises twice a day, first thing when I woke up every morning and last thing before I fell asleep every night for 30 days straight. The result? From November 2013 through to July 2014, the following amazing improvements happened in my life:

  • My fourth book was listed as a bestseller on Amazon.ca in November 2013.
  • In December 2013, that same book was also listed as a bestseller in the Calgary Herald online.
  • My son graduated from university that December, got the job he wanted at the company he wanted to work for, and moved into his own home. What a wonderful additional reward to see him so healthy, happy, and successful in his own life.
  • The annual income at my full-time job increased by $35,000 that year, and I also earned additional income through my sideline business as a book publisher and author.
  • I was approved for a mortgage in December, bought myself a brand new condo with many luxuries (safe and secure underground parking being one of them), and moved in.
  • I booked myself a trip to visit London and Paris which was on credit card and would be paid off within six months due to my increase in income.
  • I gave my son all my old furniture and was able to easily afford to buy myself new furniture for my new condo which was to be financed over three years.
  • I bought myself a new jeep which was to be financed over six years.
  • I was also FINALLY able to afford to pay back my two brothers and one of my cousins for money they had lent to me years ago when I’d been in a rough financial spot. (GOD, that felt good—to hand them each a cheque along with a heartfelt THANK YOU. I was finally free of the emotional burden of this personal debt that I had carried in my heart for years! It’s not that they had ever made me feel bad about it. Quite the contrary. But it felt like a burden to me. I had always planned to pay them back.)

Needless to say, things were going so well for me on so many fronts. I was overwhelmed with gratitude and joy … which seemed to attract even more things to feel grateful and joyful about. More good news followed. More money followed. It was absolutely amazing.

In March 2014, my mother won $1.15 million in a lottery! I was so excited for her! All of us were! Of course, my very generous mother shared part of her earnings with her children and other family members which completely paid off my remaining debts including the trip to London and Paris, the new jeep, the new furniture, everything! I was completely debt free (other than the mortgage on my new condo) with additional savings put away and even more spending money at my disposal than I already had due to the salary increase. So, I decided to also take a long-desired trip to New York City in July, too!

Not only did my mother win $1.15 million dollars in a casino lottery in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, that year … which is, you would think, a once in a lifetime event that we were all thrilled about. But then, around two months later, my uncle (who happens to be my God father) then also won $1.4 million is a separate casino lottery in Medicine Hat, Alberta! (I enjoyed teasing my cousins that their dad seemed to be trying to one-up my mom. We all had a great laugh out of that.)

What an amazing few months for me between November 2013 and July 2014! Not only did pretty much every single wish I had for myself come true, but even more wonderful things came my way than I could ever have expected. And the best part of it was that I got to see my son, my mom, and my uncle enjoy success and joy in their own lives, too. That was the icing on the cake, for sure!

My life continues to be so fulfilling to this day. I continue to earn a great living and travel. I continue to have a wonderful relationship with my son and watch him have success in his own life, too. It’s wonderful. I also continue to have increased success as a bestselling author, book publisher, and sales coach for authors. Life is sweet.

I’m a firm believer in the power of gratitude, the power of love, and the truth of Rhonda’s messages in each of her books. I’m so grateful to you, Rhonda. You have helped me to change my life for the better. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

How to Dwarf a Giant

Kim Staflund: founder and publisher at Polished Publishing Group (PPG) and author of the PPG Publisher’s Blog

For Starters, Stop Mentioning Its Name at Every Turn

Last year, an epic battle played out on the North American book publishing landscape.

The conflict pitted an ecommerce retailer/vanity publisher against traditional trade publishers, new ideas against old, price against value, which ultimately spawned the creation of a group called Authors United led by American author Douglas Preston.

In November of 2014, a soldier on the traditional side of this battle was victorious in negotiating a deal that allows trade publishers the continued right to dictate their own retail prices for the books they produce. This has always been the relationship between manufacturers and their retailers, as it should be. The manufacturer (publisher) knows its own production costs and, therefore, sets its manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) based on those costs. The retailer, in turn, lists the item at that suggested price and may or may not provide discounts to their buyers based on their own projected profit margins.

Despite this win, Preston is still concerned.

“The main problem hasn’t gone away,” he told Publisher’s Weekly. “When one company controls 50 percent of the market, and it has proven itself to be ruthless and uncaring with authors, that’s a problem. We don’t want this to happen again.”

His solution is to continue drawing attention to the problem in 2015 by sending a formal complaint to the Department of Justice citing possible antitrust issues which will surely keep this retailer in front-page news for several months to come.

Does anyone remember the movie The Golden Compass? Do you recall all the extra press coverage this movie received back in 2007 when the Catholic Church condemned it for sending an anti-religious message? By calling for a public boycott of the film, the Church actually drew even more attention to it, which inadvertently boosted its sales. That’s why I bought my ticket. I wanted to see what all the fuss was about.

By the same token, if the goal of Authors United is to dwarf a retail giant that has grown too big for its britches over the years, perhaps a more effective tactic would be to stop mentioning its name at every turn. Change the focus altogether.

There are many exceptional retailers around the world that will happily sell various book formats for their clients without exclusivity contracts while also letting those publishers (self-publishers) determine their own recommended retail prices. How about rewarding these allies by referring customers to buy books from them instead of giving all the focus and energy to a perceived adversary?

There are also many potential customers out there with different motives for buying various types of books. Some people make buying decisions based on price while others make buying decisions based on value. There is a time and a place for both types of marketing. It all depends on your book’s customer base and what will speak to them most. Trade published authors and self-publishers alike should do the necessary research to understand what their customers want, rather than blindly choosing one form of marketing over the other based on the viewpoint of one retailer. It is your customer’s wants and needs that should determine your marketing strategy.

Value-based selling is far from being a new concept, even if it’s a bit foreign to some within the book publishing industry. If it can be used to sell a car, a clothing item, or even a cup of coffee, it can be used to sell a book. And, it can result in a higher profit for the copyright owner of that book while providing more value to the buyer. It’s all just a matter of a little education.

How Gratitude and Visualization Can Help Authors Sell More Books

Kim Staflund: founder and publisher at Polished Publishing Group (PPG) and author of the PPG Publisher’s Blog

Kim Staflund’s Personal Story is the Featured “Story of the Week” This Week on TheSecret.tv

When Australian television producer Rhonda Byrne released The Secret film in 2006, it inspired millions of people all across the world from all walks of life. One of those people was Kim Staflund, bestselling author of the newly released Successful Selling Tips for Introverted Authors, who has enhanced the traditional sales and promotion of all her books using the gratitude and visualization practises recommended by Rhonda.

Staflund believes in the power of love, gratitude, and visualization but offers insight to others who have tried and come up short time and again. “In addition to reading Rhonda’s books, I began researching other individuals who have had success with this to try to understand why some succeed and some don’t,” she says. “One of my all-time favourite sources is a video clip of Oprah Winfrey interviewing Jim Carrey in the late 1990s about how he made his own dreams come true using these techniques. Oprah made the comment, ‘Visualization works if you work hard,’ to which Jim agreed, ‘You can’t just visualize and then go eat a sandwich.’ That interview really resonated with me.”

Two months before Staflund noticed one of her books on a bestseller list for the very first time, she had increased the intensity of her gratitude and visualization sessions to twice daily—first thing every morning as soon as she awoke, and last thing every night before she fell asleep. It certainly did the trick as detailed in her story on TheSecret.tv.

“The key is to feel gratitude for where you are in your life right now. Really feel it,” says Staflund. “And, at the same time, visualize what you love and where you want to go while working toward it on a consistent basis.” All authors are entrepreneurs, and there are certain things they must do if they want to achieve commercial success. As a bestselling author, book publisher, and sales coach for authors, Staflund now devotes her career to sharing her knowledge with others to help them sell more books.

When Staflund first shared her personal story with the team at TheSecret.tv, she asked them to keep her name anonymous: “I felt shy about coming right out and saying I did this and it worked for me. I’m not entirely sure why.” But after some thought, she realized that what she admires most about people like Rhonda Byrne, Jim Carrey, Jack Canfield, and John Assaraf (to name only a few) is their willingness to share their beliefs and experiences publicly so that others can see real-life people attached to these real-life stories. Doing so made everything that much more believable and inspirational for everyone else.

Staflund has decided to “pay it forward” as they did and give people one more real-life person attached to one more real-life story. She hopes authors all around the world will find it inspirational and helpful along their own journeys to success.

Change is the Only Constant: Welcome to the New PPG Publisher’s Blog!

Coming soon! Watch for this new book around the world in early August 2014!

Coming soon! Watch for this new book around the world in early August 2014!

First and foremost, thank you to every PPG Publisher’s Blog subscriber for your patience while we transitioned from one blog service provider to another when the former discontinued this particular product from their offering. (Such is life on the Internet.) And hello to all the new subscribers who have joined us here. Glad to have you on board!

While it’s taken me a little while to get back into the swing of things on this blog, not to worry! I haven’t forgotten you; and, in fact, I’ve still been writing much helpful content regarding book publishing, sales, and marketing to help you all succeed with your own books.

As you already know, in 2013 I launched How to Publish a Book in Canada . . . and Sell Enough Copies to Make a Profit! to address the frequently asked questions that are specific to Canadian individuals and businesses that wish to publish their work. This book was (and continues to be) a tremendous learning tool for many—so much so that it became a bestseller on Amazon within its first month and a half and has spawned even more questions from aspiring authors all across North America and even “across the pond” in the United Kingdom and other parts of Europe. You’ve asked and the Polished Publishing Group (PPG) has listened. Introducing How to Publish a Bestselling Book . . . and Sell It WORLDWIDE Based on Value, Not Price! which has been written for all the aspiring authors and business professionals who wish to produce a book that presents you as professional writers and industry experts within your fields.

Whether you’re writing a fictional novel, a cookbook, or a “how to” book, publishing a book is a business venture. All authors are entrepreneurs. And the first thing every entrepreneur should ask himself or herself is this: do I offer the best value in my field, or do I offer the best price? This is a vitally important question to ask of yourself before you begin the publishing process of your book. Why? Because, if you offer the best value in your field, you need to promote your business (and everything related to it—including your book!), using value-based selling. If you offer the best price, you need to promote your book using price-based selling. Consistency is the key to long-term success no matter what industry you’re in.

This new book, due to be published around the world in early August 2014, contains answers to pretty much every question you could possibly have about how to publish and sell a truly professional-quality book all around the world. Further to that, it contains an elementary introduction to international copyright (graciously written for us by Ian Gibson, Esq., an attorney who is licensed in the State of California) to provide aspiring authors with a solid starting point of reference that answers all of your basic copyright questions and a couple more, including, “How does working with a publisher in another country affect my copyright?”

By the time you’re done reading this book, hopefully you’ll have gained some valuable insight into what it truly takes to produce a saleable book and how to market it to your desired demographic. Better yet, you’ll have all the tools you need to get that book into the hands of those desired customers all around the world, land on a coveted bestseller list in your area, and earn a healthy profit in the process. That is my wish for you.

Sincerely,

Kim Staflund
